Guardian Legend is a 1988 hybrid action-adventure and shoot 'em up video game developed by Compile for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game takes place in an alien world where the player controls a transforming robot named the Guardian, who must explore various areas to locate hidden items and confront boss enemies in order to prevent an evil entity from destroying the universe. The game features both top-down exploration sequences and side-scrolling shooting segments, as well as RPG elements such as experience points and upgrades for the Guardian's abilities. The Japanese version of the game features different graphics and music from the North American release.
