The first game was released for arcade in 1992 and subsequently ported to various gaming consoles, including the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The game features a roster of characters with unique fighting styles and special moves, as well as gory finishing moves known as "fatalities." Mortal Kombat sparked controversy due to its graphic violence and realistic depiction of blood and gore. Despite this, the game became a commercial success and spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs over the years.
