E-Reader GamePlay:

The E-Reader is a peripheral device for the Game Boy Advance that allowed players to scan special trading cards to unlock extra content in compatible games. Some GBA games, such as "PokΓ©mon Ruby and Sapphire" and "Animal Crossing," used the E-Reader to offer new items, mini-games, or even entire levels that couldn't be accessed otherwise. The E-Reader was only released in Japan, North America, and Europe and was discontinued in 2004.
